Description
Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) is a COX-2 inhibitor which works by decreasing joint (or muscular) inflammation and pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It can also be used for symptoms of gout and to provide short term relief for pain occurring due to dental procedures. This medicine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking cyclo-oxygenase, thereby leading to a reduced production of prostaglandins (lipid compounds believed to act as mediators of inflammation), which in turn helps to treat symptoms such as pain and inflammation. The main difference when compared to other NSAIDs is the reduced activity against COX-1, which may help reduce the gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with other related medicines.
