Forxiga (Dapagliflozin)

Forxiga (Dapagliflozin) is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It decreases the levels of sugar the body absorbs and increases the levels of sugar that leaves the body in the urine. It should be used in conjunction with diet and exercise for best results.

Dosage and AdministrationYour doctor will advise you about your required dosage. Take only this dosage until advised otherwise by your doctor. Forxiga (Dapagliflozin) is usually taken in the morning and can be taken with or without food. You may need to increase your fluid intake while taking Forxiga (Dapagliflozin).

Side effectsThe most common side effects reported with Forxiga (Dapagliflozin) are a runny nose and/or sore throat. You may also experience dizziness and light-headedness. If you notice any other side effects, contact your doctor.

PrecautionsForxiga (Dapagliflozin) may result in dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting. These effects can be worse with alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever. They can be reduced by sitting up or standing slowly. Do not drive or operate machinery until you find how you react to Dapagliflozin.

Changes to diet and exercise may be required to get the best results from Dapagliflozin.

Dehydration can prevent Forxiga (Dapagliflozin) from working properly. Be sure to maintain an adequate fluid intake, and contact your doctor if you have bad diarrhea or vomiting.

Your doctor may prescribe regular blood tests to ensure your blood sugar levels are normal.
